Art in the vines at Château Fleur de Lisse

The passage of the Tour de France on 17 July in Saint-Emilion is a great opportunity to affirm Château Fleur de Lisse's commitment to a sustainable vineyard and to raise awareness of environmental issues. What better way to tackle the subject than through art, which is a universal language? Known for his positions in favor of ecology and childhood, the contemporary artist Gully immediately joined the "Vignerons Engagés, transmettons notre métier" project and created an original work. On the one hand, it will be reproduced on a large scale to wrap one of our outbuildings, which will be part of the itinerary of Stage 20 of the Tour de France 2021. On the other hand, the original work will be sold in Paris for the benefit of the association CéKedubonheur.

WHAT LAND DO WE WANT TO LEAVE TO OUR CHILDREN?

"To quote Saint-Exupéry, we do not inherit the land from our parents, we borrow it from our children. In fact, in 2016, when we acquired Château Fleur de Lisse, we made the choice to convert our entire vineyard to organic and biodynamic farming. The intelligence of nature and the observation of its ecosystem are at the very core of our values. It is with this respect for the terroir, our winegrowers, the consumer and future generations that we produce all our wines, vintage after vintage. This is our vision of the 21st-century vineyard, explains Caroline Teycheney, President of Château Fleur de Lisse, who has chosen art to demonstrate the efforts made by the industry to explore a new trajectory. Namely, a resolute choice towards agroecology, biodiversity, for responsible and virtuous viticulture.

Print on canvas of the original work (95 x 142 cm) by contemporary artist Gully, mixed media, entitled "Andy, Takashi, Jean-Michel and Keith meet Wahrol, Basquiat, Murakami and Haring at Château Fleur de Lisse, 2021".

ART TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Based on an original idea by Caroline Teycheney, the project focused on the wrapping of one of our outbuildings which marks the route of the very stage. This spectacular installation aims to send a strong message, "Vignerons engagés, transmettons notre métier", visible from the sky as well as from the ground, concerning both the climatic emergency and the action carried out in the Saint-Emilion vineyard. It is also a sign of our determination to pass on our wine heritage to future generations. The contemporary artist Gully, known for his stance in favor of the environment and childhood, immediately joined the project. Indeed, Gully's universe tells stories of children who are amazed by art and more particularly by the paintings of 20th-century masters. Here, the artist summons, quotes and integrates Wahrol, Basquiat, Murakami and Haring into our new Château Fleur de Lisse cellar. Imagined as children, these pop art stars challenge the audience. What can they imagine? Say to themselves?

MEETING GULLY

French artist born in 1977, Gully has gone from graffiti to canvas, from the street to the walls of renowned international galleries, opting for the pseudonym Gully while claiming anonymity. The word "gully" means " ravine " and symbolizes the break between what he used to do and what he now creates on canvas. From now on, Gully tells us, in settings with enchanting architecture, stories of children amazed by art and more particularly by the paintings of the 20th-century masters. His references? Van Gogh, Seurat, Warhol, Basquiat, Murakami, Haring, Calder, Remington and Hopper, to name but a few. Gully does not copy but quotes, interprets and integrates. "I absorb their techniques to bring out something of my own. I put them on stage in my universe, in another era... I am an eternal child!"

A PROJECT WITH A CHARITY CHARACTER

From the outset, Gully's work was linked to the cause of children and the objective of raising funds to support the actions of the CéKeDuBonheur (CKDB) association. This association, chaired by Hélène Sy and sponsored by Valérie Damidot, Leïla Bekhti and Omar Sy, is committed on a daily basis to improving the living conditions of children and teenagers in hospital through a number of actions. Fighting isolation, boredom and school drop-out linked to the difficult context of hospitalization and contributing to maintaining social links, in partnership with the nursing and educational staff, are part of our values.

AUCTION OF THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK

The original work will be auctioned on 27 October 2021 by the Cornette de Saint Cyr auction house in Paris, with all the funds raised donated to the national association CKDB. Part of the money will be directed to the regional pediatric hospital of the CHU Pellegrin in Bordeaux. This fundraiser is the first part of our partnership with CKBD, which will continue with the setting up of fun workshops, led by Vignobles Jade, to raise awareness of responsible and virtuous viticulture.
